Biography

Formed in 2010 under the name Eskimo Callboy, the band has already made plenty of noise and caused a worldwide sensation in the first decade of its existence but judging by what's been going on in the last two years, that was just the prelude.

When the band started out in 2010 under the name Eskimo Callboy - at that time still with drummer Michael Malitzki and singer Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler - their metalcore party train quickly picked up speed. A first self-titled and self-distributed EP was released in the same year. Two years later, their debut album "Bury Me In Vegas" crystallizes the metal-electro style that is to become the trademark of the five-piece. And it is precisely this style that goes down surprisingly well - the follow-up album "We Are the Mess" can place itself in the Top 10 of the German album charts in 2014. At this point, Michael Malitzki has already passed on the drumsticks to David Friedrich. The latter might look familiar to attentive german reality TV viewers from the "Bachelorette" season 2017 as well as the german offshoot of "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!": "Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus!". Within the metal scene, in which Eskimo and Electric Callboy are to be located despite their style mix, they are growing into a worldwide phenomenon - in Wacken they bring the crowd to a frenzy as well as in Japan.

Since then, the hype around Eskimo Callboy hasn't stopped. After "Crystals" and "The Scene", the electro parts take a bit more space on "Rehab" (2019) and the 2020 "MMXX" EP, making the music of the funny troupe fully meet the definition of trancecore. Whether the departure of singer Sebastian Biesler in 2020 has something to do with this development? What is certain is that his successor "Nitro Nico" does a flawless job, as he already proved beyond doubt on "Hypa Hypa", the first single with him on the mic.

In keeping with the music, the fun factor is also in the foreground in the lyrics. In general, Nico Sallach (vocals since 2020), Kevin Ratajczak (keyboards and vocals), Pascal Schillo, Daniel Haniß (both guitar), Daniel Klossek (bass) and David Friedrich (drums) do not take themselves and their music too seriously. They simply do what they feel like doing, whether in their weird songs or the wonderfully wacky music videos. And they consistently collaborate with whomever they want and don't care what anyone might think about it. An example of this is the single "Best Day", on which Electric Callboy have a guest appearance by german rapper Sido. Also among the many versions of "Hypa Hypa" are some unusual feature artists. They recorded their party hit with Sasha, Saltatio Mortis, Gestört aber GeiL, The BossHoss and the 257ers, among others. The versions with Axel One and We Butter The Bread With Butter are more genre-related. But the mixing of different music styles is exactly the concept of Electric Callboy - and this works wonderfully, as not lastly the sales and streaming figures clearly prove.

The new band name Electric Callboy also fits like a glove. In the course of the increased sensitivity in the use of ethnic terms, the band no longer felt comfortable with their first part of the name, which was chosen carelessly at the time, and therefore renamed themselves. But 2022 does not only bring the Callboys a new name, they also call their own festival into being: the Escalation Fest. The Electric Callboys are on their way to conquer the world. In this sense: "Hypa Hypa"!
